We’re beginning 2021 with a wintry mix of precipitation –mainly freezing rain since the 8 to 9 o’ clock hour last evening. Surface temperatures fell just below freezing overnight, but have risen slightly this morning to around freezing in many locations.
The frozen precipitation has caused some icing on exposed surfaces, bridges and overpasses, parking lots, and lesser traveled roadways.
According to the Missouri Department of Transportation, Interstate 44 from the Laclede-Pulaski County line through Pulaski, Phelps, and Crawford counties is partly covered. Highway 63 from Licking through Rolla through Jefferson City up to Columbia also is reported by MODOT to be partly covered.
Roads are covered in the Kansas City area and in some other areas north of the Missouri River.
Motorists who do not have to travel this morning are advised to wait until later when temperatures are expected to rise above freezing by the afternoon.
