Freedom Elementary has been certified as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey Education
Freedom Elementary has been certified as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by FranklinCovey Education. The school is the first school in the Waynesville R-VI School District to receive this recognition. Leader in Me, as described by FranklinCovey Education, is an evidence-based PK-12 model, developed in partnership with educators, designed to grow leadership skills in students and staff, create a high-trust culture and help improve academic achievement. It helps equip students, educators, and families with leadership and life skills around a common goal of preparing students with college-, career-, and life-readiness skills. Lighthouse certification is a highly regarded standard. To qualify, schools must experience significant measurable results by implementing the Leader in Me process. Schools typically apply for certification three to five years after beginning the Leader in Me process. Of the estimated 5,000 Leader in Me schools, only 650 of them have achieved Lighthouse Certification. Freedom Elementary Principal Melissa Vernon says that the school is honored to receive the certification and that the school has seen excellent results from implementing the Leader in Me process at their school, such as increased student achievement and positive school culture.
