Today and tomorrow (Saturday and Sunday) are the annual free fishing days in the state of Missouri. This weekend, any person may fish state waters without a Missouri Department of Conservation fishing permit, trout permit, and prescribed area daily tag.
However, user fees and permits may still be required at county, city, or private fishing areas. Normal regulations, such as size and daily limits, still apply, too.

Today (Saturday) is the day for the annual Kid’s Catfishing Derby on Fort Leonard Wood. Officials with the Natural Resources Branch have announced that the event is scheduled to be held from 9 o clock to noon at the pond at Training Area number 228.
The derby will be open to children, ages 15 and younger. Participants must be under the supervision of a parent of guardian.
Registration will start at 8:30 this morning. No fees or preregistration will be required for the derby, and all fishing-permit requirements have been waived. Participants must bring their own bait and fishing equipment. The event will conform to all mitigation procedures required under Fort Leonard Wood regulations.
