This Saturday is National Purple Heart Day. During this week, Fort Leonard Wood is highlighting soldiers stationed on the post who were awarded the nation’s oldest military medal still in use today.
Sergeant First Class Jeramie Larsen was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action May 8th, 2011, in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Specialist Zane Brandt was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action November 13th, 2017, also in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
Major Gary Cutler Jr. was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action March 24th, 2013, in Wardak Province, Afghanistan.
Sergeant 1st Class Brad Pickel was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action Oct. 25th, 2010, in Logar Province, Afghanistan.
Sergeant 1st Class Christopher Dean was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action April 22nd, 2007, in Baghdad, Iraq.
Lieutenant Colonel John Grabowski was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action September 1st, 2011, in Saydabad, Afghanistan.
