Fort Leonard Wood)–Time is nearing for teams to start building their lake-worthy watercraft if they plan to enter Fort Leonard Wood’s 2020 Cardboard Boat Race. The annual event, held by Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. August 22nd at the lake at Training Area 250. “This is a great team-building, unit-cohesion, family bonding, or homeschool project,” explains Loralee Neubeck with the FMWR Installation Wide Events Office. She added that teams can register online at https://leonardwood.armymwr.com. The competition is free. Competitions will be held in two categories: adult and family. Family teams must include one member under the age of 17.

Teams in each category can win the following awards:

— The High Seas Award for the most-spirited team;

— The Admiral’s Pride Award for most creative design, and

— The Torpedo Award for having the fastest time across the finish line while successfully staying afloat.

All competitors are asked to practice social distancing on race day – participants will be required to wear face coverings while piloting boats.
