Fort Leonard Wood is commemorating National Hispanic Heritage Month today through October 15th. Hispanic Heritage Month presents the opportunity to reflect upon our shared history as Americans, and specifically upon the contributions of our teammates with Spanish, Mexican, Caribbean, Central American, and South American heritage. Hispanic Americans have played a critical role in our society through their leadership and service in communities, businesses, and in every professional field, including our nation’s military. Since the nation’s founding, Hispanic Americans have served bravely in every conflict and have earned more than 40 Medals of Honor and numerous distinguished military decorations for their leadership, courage, and valor. Today, more than 139-thousand Hispanic Americans serve across Army components.
