Former Missouri U. S. Senator Jean Carnahan Dies At The Age Of 90

Missouri’s first woman U-S Senator has died. Jean Carnahan of Rolla died in hospice care in suburban St. Louis Tuesday at the age of 90.
She was appointed U-S. Senator by Governor Roger Wilson, who himself was appointed Missouri Governor when her husband, Mel Carnahan, vacated the post to run for U. S Senator from Missouri in 2000. On October 16th, 2000, a plane crash took Carnahan’s life and that of a son and a campaign advisor. His name remained on the ballots and he was elected posthumously.
Jean Carnahan served as Missouri U-S Senator from January 3rd, 2001 to November 25th, 2002.
