Former City Clerk Sentenced to prison

The former City Clerk of the northwest Missouri town of Coffey has been sentenced to prison on two counts of forgery and two counts of stealing. 40 year old Mary Lou Browning, was arrested after a 2018 audit showed the former clerk failed to make deposits, received improper payroll payments, falsified board minutes and various financial reports, to cover up her theft of more than $60-thousand-dollars from the city. Browning pleaded guilty was sentenced to 15 years in prison, and was ordered to pay restitution.
