The former city clerk in Everton has been sentenced in federal court for her role in a money-laundering conspiracy related to methamphetamine trafficking.
46-year-old Kristy Conn pleaded guilty in November of 2019, admitting that she participated in money laundering, while she was city clerk of Everton. According to information from the Federal Courts, Conn directed 41-year-old Giner Huerta to send wire transfers of the proceeds from the distribution of methamphetamine to members of a drug trafficking organization in California and in Mexico. The same drug-trafficking organization that was responsible for the distribution of more than 4.5 kilograms of methamphetamine in the Springfield area.
Conn was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison without parole. Huerta, the woman who sent the wire transfers, is awaiting sentencing.
