Flags at Half Staff – Moment of Silence

The Missouri House and Senate held a moment of silence Wednesday for a fallen U.S. Marine from Missouri. 20-year-old Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz of Wentzville was killed in Afghanistan last month by a suicide bomber while evacuating Americans and Afghan allies from the country. On the Senate floor, Senator Bob Onder of Lake St. Louis recognized Schmitz for serving his country.

Governor Mike Parson has ordered that the United States and Missouri flags at all government buildings statewide be flown at half-staff today in honor of United States Marine Lance Corporal Jared Schmitz of Wentzville.

Schmitz will be laid to rest Thursday at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis County.
