First Major Contest Winner at Missouri State Fair

A flock of four birds raised by Lauren Bailey of Clinton earned the judge’s top nod Tuesday at the market poultry show, the first major contest at the 118th Missouri State Fair. Bailey admits she wasn’t even expecting her birds to place.

Bailey explains what she believes netted her the top prize.

Bailey’s four birds all weighed within an ounce of each other, averaging six-point-nine-two pounds. Reserve Grand Champion honors went to Jasey Peoples of the Polo Trailblazers 4-H Chapter. Both pens are the first two entries in this year’s Sale of Champions, set for August 22nd. *edit( The wether goat contest begins this (Wednesday) afternoon at one, and a pair of showmanship contests take place this evening with swine at five and market lambs at seven.)
