Fake letter spreading through facebook

(Jefferson City)–The state says a fake letter spreading on Facebook claims Missouri K through 12 students must repeat their current grade since the coronavirus closed schools and canceled statewide tests. The bogus letter, dated April Fool’s Day, illegally uses the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s logo, alleges case law and is signed by “Candice B. Furreal”.
Department Spokesperson Mallory McGowin says the prank is insensitive.

Missouri is not alone – McGowin says similar pranks have popped up in Michigan, California, and Utah.
