Overcoming obstacles has been a common occurrence for Thomas Limbach of Eugene. Limbach, a member of the Spring Garden 4-H Club, led his 90-pound wether goat to reserve grand champion honors Wednesday at the 119th Missouri State Fair. While Limbach was leading his goat around the ring, his guide Trey Porter was by his side, helping Limbach get in place.

Limbach attends Missouri School For The Blind in Saint Louis, but when school isn’t in session, he’s active on his family’s farm. While the operation focuses on hogs, and he’s shown hogs in the past, he finds goats more enjoyable to work with.

Limbach and his family had to overcome another obstacle to the show ring this March, after a fire destroyed their barn.

Thomas Limbach will have his goat among the 16 items in Saturday’s Sale of Champions, with the proceeds benefiting the Youth In Agriculture Scholarships from the Missouri State Fair Foundation.
