Edgar Springs man charged with drug trafficking after his arrest on July 4th in Rolla

Phelps County prosecutors have charged an Edgar Springs man with drug trafficking after his arrest on July 4th in Rolla. According to court documents, 22-year-old Daniel Sanford was taken into custody following an incident at a gas station, where he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and refused the leave the property. Officers said they tried to detain the man on an outstanding warrant from Jefferson County. Sanford attempted to run before the deputies managed to handcuff him. Once the man was in custody, they said they found a baggie with 47 pill capsules inside his pocket. The officers said they recognized the pills to be fentanyl and that Sanford told them he found the pills and had intended to turn them over to the police for destruction.
Sanford was taken to the Phelps County Jail in Rolla and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
