A man from Grovespring is accused of drug trafficking following an investigation by the Lake Area Narcotics Enforcement Group. The suspect, Douglas Lee Hughes was stopped in the 400 block of South Jackson Avenue in Lebanon, for speeding and was recognized as a person who was under investigation by LANEG. During the traffic stop, a Laclede County K-9 unit was brought in to conduct a “free air sniff” of the vehicle. The officers then began searching the vehicle and located a bag of methamphetamine in the center console. A plastic bundle was found under a seat and allegedly contained a large bag containing a crystal substance, a digital scale, several small zipper bags, and a glass pipe. He was arrested and charged with drug trafficking. At the time of this arrest, Hughes was on parole for drug trafficking in Wright County. He is being held without bond.
