Drought Update 9-9

Drought Conditions continue to improve around the KJEL listening area, but we aren’t out of the woods yet. Moderate D1 drought decreased across portions of south-central and southwest Missouri mainly covering areas adjacent to severe or extreme drought, while a majority of the KJEL listening area remains in a D0 abnormally dry state, but to a lesser extent. Some counties in the area are no longer in a drought at all. Meteorologist Gene Hatch with the National Weather Service, explains more about this week’s drought update.

At least two inches of rainfall is needed to clear up conditions completely.

Be careful as dry conditions can still be dangerous for outdoor burning. The KJEL newsroom will provide weekly updates as they become available.
