The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds drivers that deer are more active and create hazards for motorists this time of the year. Drivers are urged to remain alert. Last year, drivers in Missouri experienced 3,639 traffic crashes where deer-vehicle strikes occurred. In these crashes, there were five fatalities and 348 people were injured. Although deer strikes can occur at any time, most occur from 6 to 7 o’clock in the morning and 6 to 7 o’clock in the evening. If you strike a deer, move your vehicle to a safe location and call 9-1-1 or star-55 on a cell phone to report it.
