Domestic Assault at Bennett Spring cabin

An Iowa man is facing charges of domestic assault following an incident at Bennett Spring State Park on April 11th. Dallas County Deputies responded to the call after the victim was able to lock the suspect out of the cabin. 46-year-old Jason Richard Berendes is accused of choking his estranged wife, grabbing her by the hair and slinging her around the room ripping her hair out, and hitting her over the course of several hours. The victim reported that when Berendes realized she was calling 9-1-1 he took off in his truck, possibly heading back to Iowa. A warrant has been issued for Berendes’ arrest on a charge of 4 counts of domestic assault and one count of harassment. His bond has been set for $50-thousand-dollars cash or surety.
