Death by Suicide on the rise

There has been a recent increase in the number of deaths by suicide in Laclede County. The question we are asking is not why or how, but what warning signs we should be looking for to keep this from happening again. According to Dr. Paul Thomlinson with Compass Health, many times suicide may seem like the only option for a person who is feeling helpless, worthless, or a burden

Mental Health America reports that 7 percent of the adult population in the U.S. has been diagnosed with major depression, while that diagnosis doesn’t always place a person at risk for suicide, it should be cause for concern. In the last 2 weeks, there have been 6 deaths ruled as suicide in Laclede County. In Missouri there are a couple of suicide hotline numbers. 1-800-273-talk(8255) or 1-800-784-2433.
