Our months-long enjoyment of Daylight Saving Time is about to come to an end until next spring. Central Standard Time goes into effect at 2 o’ clock this Sunday morning. As we’ve been told for years: Before going to bed Saturday night, set all of your clocks and watches BACK one hour in order for them to register the correct time until Daylight Saving Time returns next year.
The Fort Leonard Wood Fire Department is also reminding residents to check smoke alarm batteries. Replace them if necessary and push the test button to make sure the alarms are working. It is also a great time to check carbon monoxide detectors.
Check the manufacturing date of your smoke alarm. If it is ten years old or older, it is recommended that you replace the unit.
If you don’t have working smoke alarms, install them. At a minimum, put one on every level of the home and inside bedrooms.
And, practice a family escape plan if fire does break out in the home.
