The Laclede County Commissioners continue meetings to discuss the distribution of Cares Act funding. Among the most recent requests, County Coroner Steve Murrell presented a proposal for the purchase of a county morgue. Murrell said he was recently in discussions with State Emergency Management about the rising death rates due to COVID 19.

Murrell said during his presentation to the Laclede County Commission he requested funds for a permanent morgue facility….

Murrell said that such a facility is eligible for Cares Act Funding, and the preliminary cost would be around $35-thousand-dollars. Murrell said he is now waiting on a final decision from the Commissioners. Murrell said that he approached the county about the need several years ago, but the idea just didn’t gain any momentum.
