Southwest Missouri’s Joplin plans special events tomorrow to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the deadliest U-S tornado since official records started in 1950. The May 22, 2011, EF-5 Joplin tornado killed 161 and injured more than one thousand others. Springfield Congressman Billy Long remembers arriving on-scene the next morning at sunrise:

Congressman Long praises the 2011 response from Democratic President Barack Obama, who visited Joplin several times after the tornado. Flags commemorating the 161 victims will be displayed this afternoon and evening near two Joplin parks.
