Authorities in Morgan County say the report of a man finding tainted Halloween Candy was false.

A 37-year-old man reported being sickened by candy he could have picked up at Trunk-or-Treat events in Stover, Laurie, or Gravois Mills.

Sheriff Norman Dills, in a Facebook post, said the man told police he had been sick for the previous week with the stomach flu.

He said he became ill after eating four pieces of candy on Halloween.

The man then smoked some marijuana and said he felt better.

He said he did not suffer severe headaches and shaky limbs until after he smoked the marijuana. He said the marijuana was old.

The man was tested at Lake Regional Hospital at roughly 2:00 a.m. on November 2.

A toxicology screen showed only the presence of THC, the active component of marijuana.

There have been no other reports of illness from Halloween events in the area.
