Outdoor activities can be fun and relaxing, but if proper steps aren’t taken, being outdoors can expose you to pests that carry illness. Such is the case with ticks, that can attach themselves to your skin. Nurse Kim Smith with the Laclede County Health Department tells us some of the most common tick-borne illness is Lyme disease, but there are others….

 

The longer a tick is on your body, the better chance you have of contracting a tick-borne disease, and removing a tick properly is important….

 

Most tick-borne illness first presents with flu-like symptoms, and if untreated can lead to more serious issues, including nervous system disorders, heart disease, and recurring joint pain.
