Charges have now been filed against the person who struck a truck and threatened others with a shovel Wednesday afternoon on Y Highway near Holiday Lane. Pulaski County Prosecuting Attorney Kevin Hillman has charged Michael T. Payton with Assault in the 1st Degree against a special victim, and resisting arrest. According to a Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department report Thursday, deputies found Payton walking in the middle of the highway Wednesday afternoon around 2:40. Payton allegedly disregarded verbal orders from deputies to desist from what he was doing. He eventually was taken into custody after deputies deployed escalating pressure to force him from advancing toward deputies in a threatening manner. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the officers employed a taser, O-C spray, and eventually a drive stun of the Taser to subdue Payton. One officer was injured in the encounter.
