Camden County Man Faces Charges In Greene County

A resident of Camden County is facing charges after colliding with a vehicle and subsequently initiating a pursuit by law enforcement. During the pursuit, the individual struck two law enforcement cruisers and forcibly entered a residence in the Willard vicinity from Sunday night into Monday morning.

23-year-old Derek Callahan of Roach has been charged with fleeing the scene of an accident, causing substantial damage to property, and evading arrest.

As detailed in a statement of probable cause provided by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, the incident unfolded around 11:45 p.m. on Sunday when deputies were dispatched to aid the Willard Police Department in pursuing a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Callahan. The vehicle had collided with another car at the intersection of State Highway AB and State Highway 160 before fleeing the scene.

During the event, Callahan also struck a patrol car belonging to the Willard Police. Greene County deputies managed to catch up with Callahan on State Highway AB. Callahan executed a U-turn on the highway at this juncture and proceeded northward. A deputy in a marked patrol car was positioned on the opposing side of the road on the shoulder.

Around 12:30 Monday morning, law enforcement successfully apprehended Callahan at a residence on Farm Road 128. The homeowner reported awakening to a forceful pounding on their front door. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the door was ajar, and fragments of wood from the door frame were scattered on the interior floor alongside components of the door lock mechanism.

The bond for Callahan was set at $25,000; no court date has been set.
