March is winding down, and that means brain awareness month is almost over. The Brain Injury Association of Missouri has been sending out brain facts every day during this special month. Today’s fact has to do with helmets and motorcyclists. As we all know helmets can help save lives and The Brain Injury Association of Missouri says that more and more people are wearing helmets when they ride their bikes. Today’s brain injury fact of the day is that wearing an approved motorcycle helmet has shown to be effective safety equipment to prevent brain injuries and deaths for riders. In 2019 when the Missouri all-rider motorcycle helmet law was in effect only 10 percent of motorcyclist fatalities were not wearing a helmet. This increased to 52 percent in 2021 and 53 percent in 2022. The Brain Injury Association of Missouri wants to remind all of us that although the Missouri all-rider motorcycle helmet law was repealed in August 2022 it’s always a good idea to wear your helmet at all times.
