Board of Directors of Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District has agreed to place an additional tax levy April 4th

The Board of Directors of Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District has agreed to place an additional tax levy of 30 cents on the $100 of assessed value to personal property. This will be voted on by the voters of the District in the April 4th General Municipal elections.
The Board says it does not take tax increases lightly, and thus has not asked for an increase since 2010. However, with the drastic rise in operating costs and the loss of approximately 1/3 of its operating budget due to a contract loss, the District feels it has no choice in order to provide the service that the public expects and deserves.
In the next coming weeks, the board promises plenty of transparent information about the detailed plans for the increase. It states that the most important issues are:
– Retention of firefighters by avoiding lay-offs
– Hiring unfilled firefighter positions
– Firefighters pay commensurate to other fire agencies in our region.
The Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District says information concerning the tax increase and the strategic plan of the district will be released on its Social Media pages in the coming weeks.
