(Fort Leonard Wood)–The Blue Star Families Missouri Chapter will host a virtual event today to provide Missouri military-connected spouses with information on remote careers. The virtual event will be free to attend and will feature subject matter experts from organizations that specialize in remote careers for military spouses. Remote work opportunities for military spouses can provide the flexibility and mobility required due to the military lifestyle. However, ensuring that remote career training and opportunities are vetted and legitimate is crucial. For this reason, the Blue Star Families’ Spouseforce program specifically focuses on assessing professional skills and matching military spouses with quality career opportunities and employers.
In 2019, the Blue Star Families Military Family Lifestyle Survey reported a military spouse unemployment rate of 24%. Not only does this impact military families economically, but it also plays a significant role in military retention and readiness. The impact of military spouse unemployment has drawn the attention of the Department of Defense and they recently announced that efforts made by states to address military spouse employment efforts would weigh heavily into future basing decisions.
