Bill Would Tax Hospitals To Cover Medicaid Costs

Lawmakers in the Missouri Senate are hoping to get to routine legislation that would help to cover a significant share of the state’s Medicaid costs. The federal reimbursement allowance bill, also known as the FRA, taxes Missouri hospitals to help with those expenses. About 4.5 billion dollars in federal aid are at stake if the bill does not pass. Members of the far-right Freedom Caucus do not want funding to toward funding abortions. Most abortions are banned in Missouri, and so is Medicaid funding for abortions.
