Bill could alleviate Affordable Housing Crisis

Experts at Empower Missouri are saying that Missouri could be having a severe affordable housing shortage. According to the National Low-Income Housing Coalition, 72 percent of very low-income households in Missouri are overpaying for their housing. Vee Sanchez of Empower Missouri says that the Missouri Housing Trust fund, which Empower Missouri helped pass will be a big benefit to low-income families.

The trust fund does have a 3 percent recording fee on all deed transfer documents filled in the state of Missouri. Sanchez says there was a bill that was filed to raise the 3 percent fee to 9 percent to help low income families in multiple ways.

Sanchez believes if passed this could be a long-term solution to reduce homelessness in our state.
