Bid for Jail demolition set to be awarded next week

Laclede County Commissioners are one step closer to making a decision on the demolition of the old Laclede County Jail. Laclede County Presiding Commissioner Randy Angst tells us they are reviewing bids from 4 businesses and following up with questions. He said the bid should be awarded during the Tuesday June 29th meeting.

Angst said it doesn’t look to be a lengthy process to take the building down once the contractor gets started. Angst said the County’s idea is to save some of the materials from the old jail, and incorporate them into a gazebo type structure in its place. He said taking down the building is not something that he likes, but because the building has been neglected for a long time, it would take over a million dollars to renovate and make the building sound again.
