Before you head out on that road trip this summer, make sure you’ve got a plan in case your car breaks down. Consumer protection specialist Lara Sutherlin says if a breakdown does happen on the road, make sure you’re not getting overcharged for repairs.

You should also be sure to get your car a regular maintenance check before you head out on a cross-country trip, and be sure your insurance is up to date.
