On February 1st, at approximately 7:50PM, officers with the Rolla Police Department responded to the Phillips 66 Station in the 19-hundred block of Hwy 63, for a report of an attempted armed robbery. Preliminary information indicated that a white male, wearing a plaid jacket, entered the store and pointed an orange-colored flare gun at two employees. He then came behind the counter, pointed the flare gun at the clerk, and said “Everybody get down on the floor.” The suspect then fled the scene on foot in an unknown direction. He was not successful in robbing the store. During a search of the area, officers located a male subject on a private lot in the 19-hundred block of North Hwy 63. The subject matched the description of the subject from the store. After a brief investigation, the male subject was taken into custody for his involvement in the incident. A weapon matching the description of the one used in the incident was located near the scene. 25-year-old, Jacob Cooley, of Rolla was taken into custody. He was transported to the Phelps County Jail, and booked on charges of 1st-Degree Robbery, Armed Criminal Action, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. His bond amount was not provided.
