With five days remaining, Franklin and Texas County hunters are in a neck-to-neck race to determine the most successful turkey hunting county in the state this Spring. As of late Tuesday afternoon, 663 turkeys had been harvested in Franklin County and 643 in Texas County. Over 30-thousand birds have been harvested statewide so far, with several counties surrounding Pulaski having large turkey harvests recorded. 568 turkeys have been killed by hunters in Phelps County, 533 in Miller County, 515 in Laclede County, 481 in Maries County, and 479 in Camden County.
Some years ago, Pulaski County was among the top five counties in the state for harvesting turkeys and deer, but now the county is trailing all of its neighbors with 388 birds harvested so far this spring. This coming Sunday is the final day of the Spring firearms turkey season.
