An Iberia woman who had been arrested on eight felony counts of stealing in Miller County
An Iberia woman who had been arrested on eight felony counts of stealing in Miller County was released from jail Monday after posting a bond of $100,000.
According to court documents, investigators on May 21st assisted the Eldon Police Department in a fraud investigation at Eldon Nursing and Rehab. They said it was determined that 44-year-old Lea Maylee had obtained access to credit and debit card and banking information of several elderly facility residents while employed there.
Over the course of a few months in 2021, investigators said Maylee used information gathered from resident files to make numerous unauthorized and fraudulent purchases totaling more than $50,000. Investigators said bank records traced to purchases made by Maylee showed she used resident credit and debit cards to buy a camping timeshare, a Glock 9-millimeter handgun, Lodging at Treetop Village, and made payments on a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox for a friend, and multiple payments to A-T-and-T for herself and friends. On July 14th, prosecutors charged Maylee with seven felony counts of stealing- $750 or more, and one felony count of stealing a firearm.
An arraignment has been scheduled for August 16th.
