Ammunition found Tuesday morning in a backpack at Waynesville Middle School prompted extra security measures to be put into place and police to seize a handgun from a student’s home. School officials believe the handgun may have been taken to the school in a separate backpack. The identity of the student nor any specific details will be released by officials because of the juvenile age of the student. Presumedly, the extra security measures are still in place.
