Abortion Battle Continues Today
The next Missouri court battle for a proposed abortion rights ballot measure is Wednesday in Cole County. The American Civil Liberties Union is taking Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft over the language used to summarize to voters the intent of the amendment. Ashcroft has submitted language that asks voters whether to allow for “dangerous, unregulated, and unrestricted abortions, from conception to live birth, without requiring a medical license.”
The ACLU calls the language crafted by Ashcroft “insufficient, intentionally argumentative, and deceptive.” The organization won a lawsuit this month against Attorney General Andrew Bailey, who contested fellow Republican State Auditor Scott Fitzpatrick’s projected cost of the potential 2024 measure.
