AAA says gas prices are down in advance of Memorial day driving

The statewide gas price average in Missouri is $3.22 for a gallon of regular unleaded fuel, according to the AAA Missouri Weekend Gas Watch. That price is four cents less compared to this day last week and is four cents more per gallon compared to this day last year. Of the major metropolitan areas surveyed in Missouri, drivers in Jefferson City are paying the most on average at $3.41 while drivers in Joplin are paying the least at $3.03 per gallon. The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded is $3.60, which is four cents less compared to this day last week and seven cents more compared to price per gallon at this same time last year, according to AAA Gas Prices.

Gasoline demand increased slightly this week along with a minimal decrease in supply, according to the latest data from the Energy Information Administration. While fuel prices are currently dropping, fluctuations remain possible throughout the end of May with record road trip travel volume expected for Memorial Day weekend. “Fuel prices are in a downward trend, at least for now, heading into of one of the busiest holiday travel periods of the year,” said AAA spokesperson Nick Chabarria. “Gas prices may fluctuate through the end of May with nationwide record travel anticipated for Memorial Day.”
