Attorney General Eric Schmitt is getting national attention for suing a school district for making students and staff wear masks. Schmitt announced the lawsuit on the first day of classes for Columbia Public Schools:

In response, Columbia Public Schools’ official statement said, “The decision to file suit against a public school district after a local decision is made in the interest of safety and keeping students in school will waste taxpayer dollars and resources, which are better spent investing in our students. Columbia Public Schools intends to aggressively defend its decision to keep its community and its scholars safe.”

Attorney General Eric Schmitt rejects the president’s criticism of his trying to block local mask mandates. Schmitt says Washington should not tell Missouri what to do.

Schmitt says HE does have the authority to sue local government on behalf of students:

Schmitt has also sued four other local governments to block their mask mandates.

A children’s hospital doctor is responding to the Missouri Attorney General’s lawsuit, Dr. Jennifer Watts, of Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, says the hospital is strongly advocating to keep children in school.
