Corey York of Dixon has been arraigned in Pulaski County Associate Circuit Court in Waynesville on charges of parental kidnapping and domestic assault in the third degree.
Court documents allege that on October 15th, York kidnapped the victim, a child under the age of 17 years. Court documents also allege that York, also on October 15th, knowingly caused physical pain to a victim by kicking her in the face with his foot. York and this victim were related by blood, making the assault domestic in nature.
According to court documents, , on October 15th, Cory York was on furlough from the Pulaski County Jail for surgery scheduled to take place on October 16th at Phelps Health in Rolla.
Investigators said York’s mother had temporary custody of his child.
They said York called the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office and told them he would be at Phelps Health Monday morning for his surgery.
At 9:43 a.m. Monday, detectives spoke to York at Phelps Health.
They said York’s surgery was delayed due to the doctor running late and he volunteered to give them a statement in case something happened during the surgery.
York told detectives he took the child because the six-year-old wanted to go with him and when his mother tried to stop him by grabbing him around the ankle, he grabbed her by the hair and pulled her off.
Detectives said York decided not to go through with the surgery and was arrested by Rolla police officers who transferred custody of York over to Pulaski County authorities.
York pleaded not guilty to the charges at his arraignment. Judge Colin Long has ordered York to personally appear for a counsel status hearing on October 23rd and a preliminary hearing on November 13th.
