Most Of State Remains In Drought
A majority of Missouri is dealing with abnormally or moderately dry conditions this summer, and it’s hard to say when conditions will improve.
Doug Cluck, the Central Region Climate Services Director for NOAA in Kansas City, says the middle U.S. has experienced a La Nina for the last three years, bringing mostly abnormally dry conditions. Cluck says soon, that will transition to an El Nino.
Missouri just had its driest April and May on record since 1988. On Tuesday, Governor Mike Parson issued emergency water and hay access protocols for farmers statewide as a response to the worsening conditions. Meanwhile, large swaths of northeast and central Missouri are in extreme drought.
